Sapa travel advice
Before coming to anyplace, you need to know about it first. There are tons of experiences from who have already gone to Sapa. We make it short in the list below for you.
Sapa travel and ways of transport
By train: The most popular is to book the overnight trips which include a train Hanoi – Lao Cai and the minibus transfer to Sapa. Prices range from $16 for a hard berth to $30 for a soft berth with air-conditioning. The train will take you around 8-9 hours, and the bus to Sapa will take another 2 hours, so you may take up to 10 hours on the road. The road here is bumpy and windy, but the views are worth.
By road: ten-hour drive by car or bus from Ha Noi. Tourists find that driving in the mountainous region like Sapa is often dangerous. Unless you prepare well for this full of time and heart, we suggest you not follow this way.
Warnings for Sapa travel
- Ask for permission before taking pictures with the local people. You can use body language as a smile, lower your head down, raise your camera up to ask them.
- Gifting children: avoid candies and sweets, giving children clothes, pencils, notes, or other necessary things.
- Say “ no” not “maybe” to the local people when they offer something that you do not want to buy.
- Bargain anything down to about half the original price asked. Also, there may have Chinese products instead of being authentically local.
- Banks & Communication: The post office is in the town center, but most hotels can send postcards and letters and have stamps for sale. All hotels are available for the exchange money. You can also find some ATMs or local bank on Cau May.

- “Visiting the ethnic people in Sapa was like taking part in a National Geographic film. The trekking was not too strenuous, the food was great, as was the hotel. This was a wonderful experience from the beginning to the very end that everyone should have for once in life. The guides are excellent as well, they truly are proud of their country. I love the tour “Bac Ha and Coc Ly Market” and I would recommend this type of tour to anyone who is thinking of spending holidays in mountainous Sapa” – Benjamin James (Australia) on Feb 2016

Here are the details “My friend and I would like to say thanks to Mr. Hong from Trekking Sapa Company for organizing us a memorable trip to Sapa. We had an unforgettable time there. Mr. Hong gave us good information about hotels and transportation and we didn’t have to worry about being ripped off. He, himself even assisted us to check in the right cabin on the train and always look after us during and till the trip ends. His price is very competitive as well. Again we are so pleased to say thanks to Mr. Hong for introducing us about this Sapa Trip. We would love to recommend this company to all our friends.”
