“There are some things on this trip that have been good, some that have been great but this stands head and shoulders above all. It was a genuine privilege to be taken into the family of our guide. She led us on beautiful walks and looked after us amazingly, she took us into her own home and we met her family, played games and ate with them, my wife was dressed up as a local and we attended a village funeral (very different to England but amazing doesn’t cover that experience). We stayed at her parent’s house that night and again we’re hosted beautifully. The whole time felt like a privilege to step into their lives for a couple of days. Great homemade food, fun with her family and amazing learning of how they live, work and see the world.”

Terraced fields – a symbolic image of Lao Chai
Coming to Lao Chai – Ta Van village, visitors will be surprised by the quiet and peaceful space, in stark contrast to Sapa town. The first and most powerful impression for visitors is the rice and crop terraced fields, hundreds of hectares wide, stretching across the hillsides, extending to the door. These terraced fields give tourists the feeling that Lao Chai is connected to the surrounding mountains, and lasts until the sky is high. If you go in the right harvest season around April or September, visitors will have the opportunity to see the magnificent landscape picture of the mountains with bright yellow rice fields in terraced fields. The time when indigenous people are happy and warmest is in the season of ripe rice, when the fragrance of ripe rice spreads into space when the wind passes, making the tourists ecstatic with the golden ripe rice and Gold urges the will to experience to discover the lives of the people here.
