My friends and I had Mu for our tour. She was open, informative, and extremely helpful. Her English is AMAZING, even though she has never gone to school! My friend had a bad knee for about half of the trip and she was so accommodating–patient, even though we were trekking very slowly, and constantly checking on him, literally holding his hand through some parts. She explained how crops were grown, how to recognize the calls of different l insects, what fungi she ate as a child, how to distinguish different tribal garments, the nuances of different tribal practices and customs. Whenever we saw something new or met fellow trekkers, guides, and villagers on the road, she would explain to us what was happening, or what she talked to them about. I won’t go on, to let everyone else be able to learn and experience all of these things firsthand. When the official tour ended for the first day, she even brought my friend and I around the local village to introduce us to the people and the area. My friend and I expected to witness spectacular scenery (which we did), but we did not expect to learn as much as we did. Mu is currently a freelance tour guide, which means that several companies call her to give tours when they need more guides.
